01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A diner who especially enjoyed the grilled fish at Asobitei found plenty to like among the seafood snacks. The menu includes grilled komai smelt served as two fish, frozen squid sashimi and negitoro, a mix of minced tuna and spring onion. The same diner noted that it was a comfortable place to sit and enjoy a drink, and mentioned that shochu bottles can be kept for later visits.

For something more substantial, there are several lamb dishes to choose from: lamb and tofu, fried lamb, hearty stir-fried lamb and Jingisukan-style lamb stir-fry. If you would like another small plate, natto ajillo is an option, as is a mixed fry platter featuring ham cutlet, prawn, cream croquette and white fish.

Drinks include draft beer, bottled Akaboshi beer and sake served by the go, alongside house-made tea highballs and coffee shochu. You could pair sake with a seafood snack, or share a beer over lamb and another dish that catches your eye. Asobitei is also described as suitable for solo drinking, making it easy to pick a few things to try at your own pace.

Payment is cash only, so be sure to bring some before you visit.
